Nuisance bikes and/or scooters in your area

I am your local Neighbourhood Police Team Sergeant. I am fully aware of the issues recently around illegal bikes in the Harpenden/Wheathampstead area. I wanted to send this message personally to you all. 

PC Iffy Iqbal and I detained a 17-year-old boy in Harpenden town centre last week after he was seen riding an illegal electric bike dangerously and inconsiderately around the town.

He was detained on suspicion of: 

• Driving without insurance
• Driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence
• Possession of an offensive weapon

He will be summonsed directly to court. 

I want to reassure local officers are regularly patrolling the streets in your local areas - on foot, in marked Police cars and in unmarked cars. We will target illegal bikes and ensure we keep the streets safe.
